Melissa (Christian) Metzger

Melissa Christian Metzger, 63, of Terre Haute passed away on Sunday, August 27th, 2023.  She was born in Terre Haute on January 24th, 1960 to Paul Christian and Gladys (Apple) Christian.  She was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her daughter Grace Metzger (of Seattle, WA), sister Julie (Christian) Vanderzanden (of Tillamook, OR), niece Megan Vanderzanden (of Solana Beach, CA), and cousins Paula (Christian) Harvey, Mary Ann (Casper) Barro, Joseph E Casper II, Cathy (Christian) Wiggins, and Carol (Christian) Maesch.

Melissa was a graduate of Terre Haute South Vigo High School, class of 1978.  She continued her education at Indiana State University where she received a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.  Her career and relationships eventually brought her to southwest Ohio, where she worked in the accounting department at Miami University for 20+ years.  

In Shandon, Ohio Melissa raised her daughter and attended church, where they both sang in the choir together.  In her free time, she could be found tending to her gardens, practicing music, or working on various crafts, artworks, and home projects.  She had an eye for details, appreciated the little things in life, and always saw the good in people. She was an artist, a philosopher and a genuinely kind soul.  Melissa was proud to be born and raised in Terre Haute, where her parents also grew up, and shortly after her daughter finished school at Miami University she retired and moved back “home”.

Cremation has been chosen as per Melissa’s wishes and a celebration of life will be held on September 24th, 2023 at the Greiner Funeral Home - 2005 N 13th St, Terre Haute, IN 47804.  Visitation will start at noon followed by a service at 1pm, conducted by the class of 78’s very own, Reverend Teresa (Terri) Hord Owens.  Service music will be played by the Pineridge Partners - Judy and Warren Waldron of the Miami / Ohio Valley region.  Attendees will be invited to share memories of Melissa as we cherish the beautiful presence she had on this earth.  She shared a light and love that will continue to live on in our hearts and minds.
