Michael Lee Latta, Sr.

Michael Lee Latta, Sr., 78, passed away in Union Hospital on July 4, 2021.  He was born on March 20, 1943 in Cory, Indiana to Lester Latta and Ruth Irene Keifner Latta.  Michael was a passionate Amateur Radio operator known for his call sign: WB9ODH. He was an active participant in the Wabash Valley Practical Pistol Shooters club.  He attended Gerstmeyer High School in Terre Haute and graduated in 1961. While at Gerstmeyer, Michael participated in band, playing the trumpet, and was a long distance runner on the track team.  Michael was a hobby jumper, he enjoyed collecting stamps, fishing, and raising tropical fish.  He grew up fishing with his father on the Clay County Eel River as well as Raccoon Lake.  Michael loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Michael worked for Columbia House for 41 years as a mailer and a data processor.  

Michael is preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by his wife, Sherron Latta whom he married in 1963, a son, Michael Latta Jr. (Julie), daughters, Michelle Latta (Bob), and Amanda Fleenor (William), grandchildren; Tanner, Mitchell, Hallee, Michael, Drake, Jasmine, and Bayleigh, along with 7 great grandchildren, special co-workers; John Francis and Harley Nemeth, and the other members of the trumpet trio from high school; Bob Ogburn and Jack Gayley.

Services for Michael will be Monday, July 12, 2021 at 1 pm in Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, Indiana, 47804. A visitation is scheduled from 11 am until service time on Monday at the funeral home.  Online condolences can be made atwww.greinerfuneralhome.com
