Mike was born in Omaha, Nebraska to Lynn and Ruth (Hennegin) Carter. He went to school
and graduated from Maryville High School in Maryville, Missouri before graduating with his
undergraduate (Accounting) and graduate degrees (MBA) from Northwest Missouri State
University. Mike had many diverse interests and talents. He put himself through college
working as a licensed state vehicle inspector and mechanic. He started his professional career
as a production manager working for Union Carbide, Eveready Battery Company and finally
Sony Disc Corporation. These positions moved him from Maryville to Asheboro, North Carolina
and ultimately, Terre Haute, Indiana where he made his home for nearly 35 years. Over the last
20 years, Mike explored many different talents working as a comptroller for a family-owned
flooring business, then opened his own flooring business in Plainfield, Indiana, and ultimately
working as a craftsman laying custom tile and hardwood. He insisted on doing things right and
his work was highly sought after. He retired in 2024.
Mike was a member of the Noon Optimist club and enjoyed participating annually in their Clothe
a Child program. His many hobbies and passions have included auto racing, auto restoration,
vintage cars, camping, fishing, hunting, skiing, traveling, motorbikes, trials riding, golf, softball,
woodworking and off-road riding.
Mike was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his mother, Ruth Macias, Maryville,
Missouri; brother Brett Carter, Salina, Kansas; sister Stephanie Carter, Frisco, Texas; and a
nephew and niece. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cloth a Child with Noon Optimist Club.
