Nancy G Malloy

Terre Haute — Nancy Lynn Gates Malloy, 76, died Tuesday, May 5, 2020. She passed peacefully in her home in Terre Haute as was her wish.  Nancy was born in Milwaukee, WI in 1943 to parents William and Geraldine, and graduated Terre Haute’s Wiley High School in 1961. She earned a Bachelors degree and also a Master’s Degree in Education from Indiana State University. Shortly after High School, Nancy got involved with the Community Theatre of Terre Haute where she met her husband, Pat Malloy, and married him in 1964.  Not only did Nancy meet the love of her life at Community Theatre, she also met the greatest group of lifelong friends she could ever imagine. Nancy’s hobbies and vocations were many and over the years included teaching, volunteering for meals on wheels, cooking at the Beaver House restaurant, and co-owning a small teddy bear company. In the mid-1990s, Nancy decided to take up walking as a way to help her quit smoking. This simple activity quickly blossomed into a passion and over the next 15 years, she finished dozens of 5ks, 10ks, and Half-Marathons—most with her daughter Ann—and spent much time volunteering with the Wabash Valley Road Runners. Ultimately, she retired from the Vigo County Public Library. She loved spending time with friends, family, and various pets and was able to do these things until the day she passed. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Pat Malloy.  She is survived by her sister Carolyn Gates Steinbaugh of Terre Haute; daughter Ann Malloy of Terre Haute; son Patrick Malloy, daughter-in-law Kate, and grand-daughter Lucy, of Seattle. Some of her favorite pets—past and present—include dogs Gigi, Freddie, Andrew, Julane, Opie, Gerri and Sandy; and cats Dickerson, Roya, Zena and Sebastian. Close friends and family intend to celebrate Nancy’s life this summer, when hugs and kisses can be safely shared by all. And finally, her remains will be placed next to her husband Pats in their final resting place in Crawfordsville, IN.  Nancy will be greatly missed by many though the thousands of happy memories will keep her in our hearts forever. Her family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to either the Vigo County Historical Society or the Terre Haute Humane Society.
