Reginald Louis Lovell
3 October 1941-----18 January 2025
Terre Haute-On Saturday the 18th of January 2025, Reginald Louis Lovell passed onto a new life, one without strife and free from pain. He was born 83 years ago in Indianapolis, IN to Edwin Louis Lovell and Lelia Merle Lovell, nee Wilson, calling Brownsburg their home. Later this included his two brothers Brian and Eddie.
Early in Reggie’s youth he became an avid coon hunter. So enthusiastic in fact that he decided to forgo his promising high school football career. You would also find him on White Lick Creek, his favorite hangout. He graduated from Brownsburg High Class of 1959. After his first year at Ball State University, he decided to try barbering where his dad Edwin and grandfather George Lovell had a family shop on Main Street. It was the right move as it was a forty year career!
He married Nancy Mitchell; together they raised two children: Jennifer and Frank. He also volunteered for the fire department and served as their fire chief in 1978 and 1979. He was a mover and a shaker in Brownsburg during those years. Suddenly in 1986 Nancy passed.
Later he married Patricia Mahan Moutau. Following his retirement, they settled in AZ where she suffered a stroke. He became her caregiver for 10 years until her death.
Then he headed back to Hoosierland, buying a small farm in Pittsboro. In the summer of 2010 he met a former classmate Eloise Tedrowe Marietta and escorted her to her 50th class reunion. In October 2010, they married. Much of their time was devoted to pickin’ primitive antiques. He couldn’t resist a good find. Special friends Dennis Huey and Dar Fields from the Reminisce Antiques were always there to lend a friendly hand. Between his joking and story-telling, he never met a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Eddie.
Survivors include his wife of 14 years Eloise, his daughter Jennifer Tribbett (Carmel), and his son Frank Lovell, granddaughter Sara Lovell, and great grandson Leon Lovell(Brownsburg) and his brother Brian Lovell (Brownsburg). In addition to Mark (Cindi) Marietta (Rosedale), David (Dawn) Marietta (Rockville), Mike (Rhonda) Marietta (Ft. Wayne), Steve (Yvette) Marietta (Alabama), Suzi (Mark) Unger (Terre Haute) and Dianne (Jimmy) Alstatt (Brownsburg); 22 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Our family sends its gratitude to the speedy ambulance team who initially took Reggie to the hospital, also to Union’s ICU Unit, finally to the Gibson Center for Hospice Care for their kindness and for keeping Reggie comfortable.
