Richard Laycock Obituary

On Sunday July 22, 2018 at age 72, surrounded by his family at home, Richard “Dick” Lee Laycock, surrendered peacefully to cancer. He was born on January 6, 1946 at Terre Haute Union Hospital to Floyd Griffith Laycock and Ada Evelyn (Green) Laycock, who resided in Bullskin, Illinois.

Richard was proceeded in death by his parents, brother Russell W. Laycock, brother-in-laws Ernest “Bud” Ferry, William “Bill” Sampson, Leo Heck, sister-in-law Paulette Laycock and nephew Johnny Max Ferry.

Richard is survived by, the love of his life for 48 years, Paula Jean (Cordrey) Laycock, who he married on January 4, 1970. He is also survived by his two daughters; Delores “Dee” Whitlock (Terry) of Terre Haute and Karrie Hudson (Jay) of Linton, IN, four grandchildren, Alizabeth Hudson, Todd Hudson, Coan Whitlock and Cora Whitlock, and his brothers David Laycock (Georgia Wright) and Floyd M. “Mike” Laycock of Terre Haute and by his sister-in-laws Bevelyn “Babs” Sampson and  Juddy Ferry of Brazil, IN,  along with sister-in-law Marjorie “Marge” Heck of Sevierville, TN. Richard also had several nieces & nephews, great nieces & nephews & great-great nieces & nephews, as well as a multitude of extended family and treasured friends.

Richard graduated in 1964 from Honey Creek High School in Terre Haute, IN. He attended Indiana State University. He retired early in 1996, after 28 years of service, from the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Terre Haute. He was a 50 year member of the Pimento Masonic Lodge, 25 year member of the Pimento Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Valley of Terre Haute Scottish Rite, the International Brotherhood of Magicians, the National Muzzleloader Rifle Association and the Buck Creek Muzzle Loader Gun Club in Linton, IN. He attended Farmers’ Chapel Community Church, with his wife.

Richard had several interests in his life. His most loved hobbies were; magic, pre 1840 primitive reenacting camping, scuba diving, hunting, reading, watching movies, storytelling and telling jokes; all especially when done with his grandchildren & family.

Richard’s family wishes to thank the staff at Southern Care Hospice for all of their assistance and care they provided to Richard and the family.

Richard and his family have chosen cremation with a memorial service to follow on Saturday August 4, 2018 at Farmers’ Chapel Community Church located at 9213 South Sullivan Place, Terre Haute, IN 47802. A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held from 10:30 AM – 1:00 PM, with a memorial at 1:00 officiated by Pastor Terry Whitlock. In lieu of flowers, the family wish donations be made to the Pimento Masonic Lodge #292 or the Order of the Eastern Star #516 mailed to 128 Berkley, Terre Haute, IN 47803. Richard will be lovingly missed by all who knew him.
