Robert "Bob" Wray Obituary

Robert “Bob” W. Wray, 97, of Terre Haute, Indiana, was called home to Heaven January 6, 2021 in Cobblestone Crossings Health Campus after a brief battle with Covid-19.  Robert was born September 24, 1923 to Clyde and Dorothy Julian Wray in rural Lawrence County, Indiana, the first born of 9 children.  He graduated from Heltonville High School in 1941, working afterwards in Chicago, Illinois before entering the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the South Pacific Theatre.  He attended Indiana University on the G.I. Bill, earning a degree in business administration.  He worked in tire sales for 22 years, after which he began his businesses; Manor Office Supply, Pen Line Companies of North America, and Wray Enterprises, which he owned and operated until his retirement.  He married Mary Ellen Hawkins of Heltonville, Indiana, on January 26, 1952.  They were married 52 years when she preceded him in death October 15, 2004.  Robert was a member of World Gospel Church and Gideon’s International.  He was a former member of Union Christian Church.  Through the years, he served in several capacities including deacon, elder, teacher, and youth leader.  His passions were supporting missions and the work of the Gideons, having spoken in many churches throughout the local counties and participating in scripture distribution to hospitals, hotels, motels, fairs, festivals, and on college campuses. He loved to get the Word of God to anyone willing to accept it.  He is survived by 2 sons, James L. Morris (Nora) of Savoy, Illinois, John R. Wray of Terre Haute, brother, Ted Wray of Monroe County, Indiana, sister, Connie Lewis (Scott) of Bedford, Indiana, 2 grandchildren, Paul Morris (Jennifer) of Inola, Oklahoma, Robin Brannigan (Casey) of Wake Forest, North Carolina, their mother, Gail Morris of Claremore, Oklahoma, 4 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson, 3 sisters in law, Elizabeth Rose Wray, of Brownstown, Indiana, Martha C. Wray of Bloomington, Indiana, Jo Ellen Wray of Mitchell, Indiana, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  In addition he was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws, Eithel and Bessie Hawkins, 4 brothers, Bill, Ralph, Jerry and Russell Wray, 2 sisters, Lenora Weinhoff, and Betty Gaiter, brother-in-law, and wife Ray and Louella Hawkins, 2 sisters-in-law and husbands Hazel Chambers (Ray), Betty Secrist (George), 2 nephews, Richard Wray, and Mark Weinhoff and great niece Cheyenne Wray.  The family wishes to thank the staff at Cobblestone Crossings Health Campus for the loving care provided for the past 2 years, Dr. Mark Schuld and staff at Riley Family Medical for many years of care and Dr. Camillo Mendoza for his attentive care this past year.  Visitation will be from 9 am to 11 am on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 in World Gospel Church, 900 Gardendale Rd, Terre Haute, IN 47803, with the service beginning at 11 am.  Pastors Ben Burdick and Jonathan Hollingsworth officiating. A graveside services will follow at 2 pm in Mundell Christian Church Cemetery in rural Lawrence County, Indiana. Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, Indiana, 47804 has been entrusted with care and arrangements.
