Ruth Evelyn Carter, 85, passed away May 5, 2018 in Exceptional Living Center in Brazil, Indiana. She was born December 28, 1932 in Las Angeles, California to John and Alice Crossin Hanna. Ruth worked as a nurse for many years in Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana. She was a devout Christian who adhered to the Pentecostal faith. She graduated top of her class from the Chicago School of Nursing. She was a very intelligent individual. She loved her family, and was very kind hearted. She would have done anything for anybody. She had a great love of animals. She was the undisputed matriarch, and was held with high respect from her family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, a husband Gerald Carter Sr., a daughter, Rebecca Ruth Carter, brothers; Tom Hanna and his wife Nancy, and James Hanna, sisters; Naomi Corey, and Rosalie Hanna. She is survived by her sons; Gerald Carter Jr. and his wife Corina, Daryl Carter and his wife Nicole, and Jonathan Carter and his wife Kelly, a daughter, Naomi Kirby, brothers; John Hanna and his wife Betty, and Bill Hanna, a sister, Alice Wade, 16 grandchildren, and several great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life is scheduled for 2 pm on Thursday May 10, 2018 in New Life Church, 815 Ohio Ave, Terre Haute, Indiana, 47807. Pastor Paul Carey will officiate.
