Shanti Anne Paramanandam, 79, of Terre Haute passed away on August 25, 2021, surrounded by family. She was born on January 15, 1942, at the Christa Sishya Ashram (Commune) Thadagan, Coimbatore, India to T.O. Mathew and Aleyamma Philppose Mathew. She served as a church elder at the National Evangelical Church of Kuwait. She was a past member of Faith Wesleyan Church. Shanti earned her B Sc in Nursing from Christian Medical College, Vellore, India and M Sc in Nursing from the University of Buffalo in New York. She worked as a nurse for many years beginning at the age of 21. She worked in almost every field of nursing, on 4 continents, and received awards of recognition in nursing wherever she worked. She was strong in her faith, and she lived to help others. She and her husband spent 2 weeks on a mission trip to Belize. Shanti spoke 6 different languages, and even helped train incoming nurses during her time in Europe. She enjoyed challenging family and friends to a game of Scrabble. She loved to meet new people and spend time with her friends and family. She was a stage 4 cancer survivor, but after a long battle succumbed to Parkinson’s disease. Peace, Peace, Peace, indeed.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, and a sister, Susy Abraham, of Kerala, India.
She is survived by her husband, John Paramanandam (m. 1965) children; Lillian Eason (Rev. Glen) of Pennsylvania, Ivan Samuel Paramanandam, and Elizabeth Karen (Chad Sullivan) of New Mexico, a brother, Dr. Phillip Mathew of Australia, grandchildren; Christopher (Alison), Amanda, Timothy, Jessica, Rachel, Lily and Ling, with a great grandbaby due in December.
Services for Shanti will be on Tuesday August 31, 2021 at 10 am in Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, Indiana, 47804. Visitation will be from 5 pm to 7 pm on Monday August 30, 2021and again on Tuesday one hour before service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
