Sue (Maureen Fisher) Garry, born on Christmas Day, 1938, in London, England, entered the world to the sound of carolers on her doorstep—a fitting introduction for a vibrant woman who could light up any room. The beloved daughter of Dorothy and James Fisher, Sue was the sister to Ronnie and Kenny Fisher, and Margaret (Arnold) Crawley, all of whom preceded her in death and undoubtedly greeted her with open arms in Heaven. Sue was a survivor of the German Blitz Bombings in London during World War II which undoubtedly played into the lifelong mental and physical toughness that she possessed. In 1962 Sue got married to U.S. Airman Richard Norman in London and had her first child. In 1964, Sue packed her bags and with her sense of adventure, moved to the United States, where she had two more children while building a beautiful life in Indiana. Along the way she married Jim Holton and had another child. She raised her children while working at Columbia Records and later Rose-Hulman, leaving her sparkle behind at both places. Her colleagues became lifelong friends, and her giggles echoed through every memory they shared. Sue always set the bar high in everything she did, including working an incredible 63 years of her life! After two marriages that gave her the gift of motherhood, Sue married the love of her life, Bob Garry. Together, they operated Twin Lakes Amusement Park and made countless memories. Sue proved love is action, caring for Bob for a decade after his stroke until he passed away in 2010. Her family was her biggest blessing and most prized possession, as she was Mum and Nanny to many. She leaves behind her sons—Kevin, Kenny (Tina) and Chris (Michelle) Norman, Jimmy Holton, and Timothy (Dusty) Wallace—along with 25 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, 6 stepchildren with families of their own, and nephews and great-nephews. Sue loved all her friends dearly! She had a gift for making each person feel like her #1. Known for her selfless heart, boundless energy, and English accent, Sue was a force of nature. She could outlast people half her age, whether on the dance floor, a shopping spree, a vacation, or the casino, and she had an uncanny ability to turn strangers into friends. Her faith in Jesus was her compass, guiding her through life’s storms with grace and strength. Even in her final days, she shared that she wasn’t sad or afraid, just confident Heaven would be her eternal home. As she’s preceded in death by her soulmate, parents, siblings, and countless friends, we know there’s a heavenly reunion party happening right now, complete with bingo cards, and a dance floor.
Sue’s family invites everyone to celebrate her beautiful life at a memorial service on Saturday January 25th 2025 with the showing at 12:00 to 2:00 pm and a service following at 2:00 pm at Union Christian Church 5350 Hulman St. Terre Haute, IN 47803
