William “Bill” Locke was born September 5, 1944 in Vienna, Illinois.
“If I did anything right in my life, it was when I gave my heart to you.”
On January 5th, 1966 he was sent to the store for a loaf of bread with Sharon (York) Locke and came back married to his “beautiful wife,” as he always called her. Bill and Sharon have been married for 55 years, and have shared many of life’s ups and downs, but most of all they shared a lot of laughs and an incredible love.
“A father’s love is forever imprinted on his children’s hearts”
Bill and Sharon had three daughters who married two of the “greatest men I know”. He loved them so much they were never called his “son-in-law,” but simply “son”. This doting man became a father to Sheila Locke, Billi & Scott Sears, and Nikki & Rich Megenhardt. He always referred to his kids as his pride and joy, giving them amazing memories, life lessons, and a role model of what a man should be like. He was always quick with advice, helping fix something, or just supervising as he sat in the sun.
“Papaw has ears that truly listen, arms that always hold, love that’s never ending, and a heart that’s made of gold”
He was a devoted family man; nothing was more important than the love he showed them. He was an adored “Papaw” by his grandchildren Bradley Locke, Arianna and Douglas Rourke, Marissa Sears, Richie Megenhardt, Taryn Megenhardt, and his great-grandchildren Cameron Locke and Lorelei Rourke.
He is also survived by his brother Bobby (Marilyn) Locke, sisters Vesta Daley and Becky Carpenter, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Janet McCullough, Terry York, and Brenda (Jim) Ketner, along with many loved and adored nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother Alene Manning, father Dewey Locke, sister Freida Joann Kazhe, mother-in-law Mary York, “The best woman besides your mother,” and father-in-law Roy York. Also preceding him in death were his very dear Uncle and Aunt Chester and Marjean Cagle.
He retired from the Terre Haute Housing Authority in 2013.
Special thank you to Dr. Jeevan and Fresenius Kidney Care.
To know Bill is to love him. He is, and will forever be, in our hearts and memories. As much as you loved, you are loved.
