William Dennis McCallum

William Dennis McCallum, 67, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away November 5, 2018 after a long, courageous battle of cancer.  He was born in Terre Haute, Indiana, to James and Ruth (Smith) McCallum, on August 29, 1951. He graduated from Garfield High School in 1969 and Indiana State University in 1973 with a bachelor's degree in marketing.  McCallum excelled at playing baseball and basketball; his Babe Ruth team went to Alaska for the World Series in 1967, he played both sports for Garfield High, played on the Post 346 American Legion team, and played basketball and four years of baseball at ISU.   He coached his son in Little League at Babe Ruth and American Legion Post 346.   William also served in the United States Army Reserve.   William was a member of First Christian Church, in Brazil, Indiana.  He enjoyed vacationing, especially visiting the ocean.  He often times counted down how many days until he could vacation again with his family.  He enjoyed sports, the outdoors, fishing, and most importantly his grandchildren.  William had a great sense of humor, which made anyone who knew him laugh.  His greatest accomplishment was his family, whom he loved spending time with.  William was preceded in death by his parents, his brother James McCallum, and his sister, Barbara.  He is survived by his wife of 37 years Nita (Thomas) McCallum; children Derrick Thomas (Karen Jones), Simone Ramsey, and James McCallum (Kari Milroy); grandchildren Taylor Ramsey (Layne Carson), Lauren Ramsey, and Nathan Thomas; mother-in-law Vernita Englum; siblings Madonna Glick (Raymond) and Jeanie Sturm (Mike); sister-in-law Lois McCallum; brother-in-law Phil Witt (Linda), and many nieces and nephews.  In honoring William's wishes, cremation has been chosen with no funeral services.  A Celebration of Life will be held on February 2nd at 1:00 at the fellowship hall of West Side Christian Church; 126 N. 8th St, West Terre Haute.  Our sincere thanks go out to Dr. Pili and his team of IU's Simon Cancer Center.  Memorial gifts may be made to the IU Simon Cancer Center for Dr. Pili's GU Cancer Research.  Please make checks payable to IUF; PO Box 7072; Indianapolis, IN 46207-7072.  Indicate "In memory of William McCallum" on the memo line.  You may also make donations online at www.cancer.iu.edu/giving.
