William Nathan "Peat" Mossbarger

William Nathan “Peat” Mossbarger, 48, of Sullivan passed away Monday September 4, 2023 at his residence. He was born in Terre Haute on April, 7, 1974 in Terre Haute to Percy Mossbarger and Nancy Kirkham Mossbarger.

Nathan is survived by his mom, Nancy Mossbarger, dad, Percy Mossbarger, sister Julie Mossbarger-Sexten (Justin Sexten) and nieces, Macie, Morgan and Millie as well as his very loyal dog, Hank. Nathan, from here forward lovingly referred to as Peat, graduated from Terre Haute South in 1993 and Southeastern Illinois College in 1995 with a forestry degree. Peat’s first job was at Kirkham Hardwoods, his family’s sawmill, where he worked until 2 years ago when he started at Steel Dynamics Heartland Division. Peat always spoke so highly of those he worked with at the plant. He was a hard worker but never let work define him. Peat was an old soul from birth and truly one of a kind. He spent as much time outdoors as he could. He loved birding, gardening, hunting and fishing. The only thing he loved more than time in the woods was time with friends. He was loyal beyond words and would give you the shirt off his back, if he had one on under his overalls. If you met him, you remembered him and he remembered you. There is a good chance you were included in one of his many stories, and man could he tell a good one. Peat lived life in the moment and to the fullest. He became a part of so many families and he loved you all like his own. Peat has left some rare boots to fill and will be sorely missed. Nate, Peat, Uncle Peat, we find our comfort that you are in the presence of your creator, where the woodlands are abundant and forever tick-free. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday September 8, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Crossroads Community Church, 2 S. Court St., Sullivan, IN 47882.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Crossroads Community Church 2 S Court St
