Wilma Lucille Payton

Wilma Lucille Payton, 88, of Terre Haute, Indiana passed away on December 22, 2025.  She was born in Sullivan County, Indiana, on April 9, 1937, to Walter Gorby and Ella (Benefield) Gorby. She attended Hymera High School and graduated in 1955. Wilma worked at Morris Plan Loan Company from 1960-1965. She married William Payton in 1965.  She went on to IVY Tech for nursing, but did not complete her degree.  Wilma worked for Dr. Paul Davis from 1966-1975, and went on to work as a secretary for Foursquare Gospel Church from 1976-1990.  She loved camping, traveling, and church activities.  Wilma was preceded in death by her parents and her husband William D Payton Jr.  She is survived by her children: William D Payton III (Jackie) of Terre Haute, Dawn Schubert (Matt) of Brownsburg, Nancy Daffer (Scott) of Terre Haute, Marcia Goodman (Steve) of Indianapolis; grandchildren Michelle Payton, Kristen Hughes, Brent Foster, Eric Foster, Andrew Foster, Samantha Schubert, Levi Schubert, Ryan Daffer, Megan Daffer, Zachary Goodman, Lauren Goodman; and several great grandchildren. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, December 29, 2025, at 1:00p.m. at Greiner Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.  Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday, from 11:30a.m. until service time.
